We present to you the latest episode of Music Unveiled from Westside Resource Centre where we take a deep dive into the music of our One sea, two shores programme. We begin with Irish composer Rhona Clarke, who takes us on a whistle stop tour of her dynamic piece Pas de Quatre (‘Dance for four’) with live demonstrations from ConTempo Quartet.
In the second half, Dr Aidan Thomson from Department of Music in University of Galway, one of our regular presenters on Music Unveiled, brings his segment to us in a new conversational format. And what a fantastic discussion is had between him and ConTempo Quartet, about Joaquín Turina’s atmospheric La Oración del Torero.
Pop on the kettle, and settle in for a glorious hour of music and conversation.
Our Music Unveiled events are paired with our Lunchtime with ConTempo series (which takes place in St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church on the first Tuesday of the month) and ConTempo Countwide series (which takes place in communities around Galway county).
Ahead of these concerts, we deconstruct some of the featured repertoire so you can learn about the music performed at our concerts and connect with the works more deeply.
This session is brought to you in partnership with Galway City Council Arts Office as part of its Cultural Partnerships initiative, and Galway’s city libraries and University of Galway’s Music Department.
Come on this journey with us. Help us make many generations of musicians and music lovers in Galway and beyond.
