We continue our Autumn/ Winter season under the theme, In Conversation and invite you to explore the many voices of the string quartet with us – some familiar and some rarely heard – from a myriad of European cultures in conversation with the incredible work of Irish composers.
This is the third of our four repertoire programmes this season, One sea, two shores and brings you music from Malta, Spain and Ireland. Feel the heat of Spanish string quartet repertoire, alongside lesser-known Maltese flavours. Joaquín Turina’s Oración del Torero depicts a bullfighter’s prayer before entering the ring, while Joseph Vella’s 3 Danze Antiche con Preludio reimagines Baroque dance and Karl Fiorini’s Maltese Quicky sparkles. Rhona Clarke’s Pas de Quatre, written for ConTempo Quartet, completes the programme.
