Join violist and producer Karen Dervan of Elevation Ensemble for a hands-on workshop exploring how string players can work with live electronics, improvisation, and extended techniques both collaboratively and collectively. Designed for young musicians aged 12–18, this session invites participants to experiment with new sounds and ways of playing together as an ensemble.
The workshop ties in with The Pale Blue Dot, Elevation Ensemble’s new multimedia concert experience premiering at the Arts in Action series (Nov 5th), which reimagines the Voyager Golden Record – the “time capsule” of music and sound sent into space aboard NASA’s Voyager spacecraft in 1977 to represent Earth to any future finders. Participants will discuss the power of music to express feeling and identity, drawing on the record’s original selections, before putting their new skills into practice by performing an excerpt from one of the pieces written for The Pale Blue Dot.
